ROOT ROUTES: The journey of roots, customs, and traditions in the performing arts.
BIPAM 2018 กับธีม ROOT ROUTES เส้นทางแห่งูราก ขนบ และประเพณีในศิลปะการแสดง
Despite the global trend toward contemporaneity, Thailand and Southeast Asia are still identified by their traditions by the world and its majority of citizens. And indeed, it is true that this is a region rich in traditions, and they account for a lot of the region’s characteristics. However, it is irrelevant to look at traditions out of the contemporary context. Traditions may exist, but they will not continue to live if they cannot be examined truthfully and realistically against the contemporary lives - how and whether they enrich or enhance the ambitions of the people of today.
ในขณะที่วงการศิลปะทั่วโลกกำลังให้ความสนใจกับความเป็นร่วมสมัย แต่บ่อยครั้งศิลปะในประเทศไทยและเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ยังคงมีภาพที่ยึดโยงกับขนบประเพณี ทั้งในสายตาโลกภายนอกและประชากรของประเทศนั้นๆ เองด้วย จริงที่ว่าภูมิภาคนี้มีความหลากหลายด้วยประเพณีที่แตกต่างไปตามแต่พื้นที่ ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นถึงสภาพแวดล้อมและผู้คนที่มีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตน แต่เราก็ไม่ควรมองประเพณีเหล่านี้ว่าเป็นสิ่งดั้งเดิมที่อาจตัดขาดจากบริบทปัจจุบัน เพราะประเพณีจะอยู่ต่อไปโดยไร้ชีวิตหากไม่เชื่อมโยงกับความเป็นจริงของสังคมและผู้คนในทุกวันนี้
With ROOT ROUTES, BIPAM 2018 aims to bridge traditions and the contemporary in performing arts; creating new routes between the two by exposing the traditional and the contemporary to and against each other; presenting existing routes through works that traces back to one’s root to make sense of their present; and showcasing the current challenges and struggles in the performing arts communities as a foundation upon which we can examine the relevance of traditions.
ในปี 2018 BIPAM มุ่งหวังจะสร้างสะพานเชื่อมโยงขนบประเพณีและความร่วมสมัยในศิลปะการแสดงโดย 1. สร้างเส้นทางใหม่ขึ้นมา อันเป็นเส้นทางที่อยู่ระหว่างทั้งสอง เส้นทางที่จะเปิดให้ทั้งสองได้เผชิญหน้าซึ่งกันและกัน 2. นำเสนอผลงานที่เลือกทำความเข้าใจโลกปัจจุบันผ่านการเดินทางกลับไปหารากของตน ผ่านเส้นทางที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นแล้ว และ 3. แสดงให้เห็นสภาวะ ความท้าทาย และการดิ้นรนต่างๆ ของชุมชนศิลปะการแสดงปัจจุบัน อันจะเป็นฐานสำคัญในการทำความเข้าใจขนบประเพณีว่ายังมีความเชื่อมโยงเกี่ยวข้องต่อสังคมร่วมสมัยหรือไม่ อย่างไร
