A dance workshop that draws essence from traditions Bharathanatyam and amalgamates contemporary dance. The 3-hour workshop is designed in 2 parts:
เวิร์คช็อปการเต้นอันดึงรากฐานจากภารตนาฏยัมและการผสมผสานกับการเต้นร่วมสมัย Part 1 - Construct, Deconstruct and Reconstruct from the Roots
Drawing on the practices and philosophies of traditions (Bharathanatyam), and contemporary, the workshop will navigate the body and mind of the dancers to move through space between the nuances of traditions and contemporary dance to discover a physical expression of Contemporary dance inspired from Asian tradition and culture. The dancers whirl, twirl and inhabit space as they discover their body in a new expression that
amalgamates traditions and contemporary.

Part 2 - Rhythmic Bodies
The second part of the workshop will use a work inspired from Asian Contemporary structure to enable participants to enter the expression space of Maya Dance Theatre.

About Maya Dance Theatre Maya Dance Theatre (MDT) was established in 2007 by dance artists, Kavitha Krishnan and Juraimy, Abu Bakar with Company Manager, Imran Manaff. MDT is a non-profit professional dance company that has carved out a niche for itself in the Singapore dance scene. The company has performed in numerous local and International Dance Festivals and arts events. MDT conceives a brand of movement that preserves the ethos of Asian Dance while seamlessly melding it with a contemporary aesthetic. Creating a hybrid dance language, they drive their brand of expression grounded in the visceral nature of the human spirit.
Definitive and growing, MDT embarks on bold explorations and collaborations with partners whose artistry and practice enable them to transcend boundaries beyond form. To date, MDT has worked with the following collaborators, dance artists/choreographers: Liz Lea (Australia/UK), Janis Brenner (NYC, USA), Eko Supriyantho & Danang Pamungkas (Solo, Indonesia), Rianto (Japan/Indonesia), Nirmala Seshadari (Singapore/India), Cynthia Ling Lee (USA/Taiwan) & Rachel Ogale Ariana (Perth, Australia); Dance Companies: Tri Pusaka Sakti Foundation (Bali, Indonesia), ODC ( San Francisco,USA) and ASWARA (Malaysia).
With a unique artistic narrative created from intercultural dance theatre and evolving through cross-trainings rooted in Asian and contemporary dance practices and philosophy, the company continues to work across boundaries with different collaborators. Apart from producing and presenting productions, MDT has also organized several community initiatives with different community partners in Singapore.
