PANEL 1. Festival Programming: Mobility, Currency and Oxygen

The title of this panel comes from the idea that there is a particular currency for artists that are invited to perform at another place. Mobility is treated as a measure of contemporary standing. Its meaning and value comes from representing and being the local - the local that is brought to a global. หัวข้อการเสวนาครั้งนี้มาจากความคิดที่ว่ามีแนวโน้มหรือกระแสบางอย่างที่ขับให้ศิลปินอยากที่จะแสดงผลงานของตัวเองในอีกพื้นที่หนึ่ง การเคลื่อนย้ายสถานที่ถูกมองว่าเป็นเป็นมาตรวัดของสถานะของความร่วมสมัย ความหมายและคุณค่าของการเคลื่อนย้ายนั้น่เกิดจากการนำเสนอท้องถิ่น และการเป็นท้องถิ่น โดยเฉพาะท้องถิ่นที่ถูกนำมาพาพบกับระดับโลก
Responding to the discussion on programming are 2 international festival/ platform directors from Asia and Europe. What are their motivations and intentions for their festivals/ platforms? Expanding from this, we hope to examine what it might mean to Southeast Asian practitioners when invited to perform at their festivals.

Hiromi Maruoka is the president of the Japan Center, Pacific Basin Arts Communication (PARC) and director of the Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama (TPAM, former Tokyo Performing Arts Market), an international platform for arts professionals which has strongly been focusing on Asian contemporary performing arts since 2015. She also launched Postmainstream Performing Arts Festival (PPAF) as a co-director in 2003; invited the Asia Satellite Meetings of IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts) to Japan in 2008 and 2011; started Sound Live Tokyo in 2012 and directed the programming in 2012 and 2013; and is one of the founders and the vice president of Open Network for Performing Arts Management (ON-PAM) that was founded in 2013.

Katia Arfara holds an MA in theatre studies (Athens University) and a PhD in art history (Sorbonne University). As the Theatre and Dance Artistic Director of the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens since 2010, she initiated the Fast Forward Festival which commissions socially engaged public works, in 2014. She has lectured extensively in France and Greece. Her essays at the crossroads of theatre, dance and visual arts have appeared in various journals and critical anthologies. Dr Arfara is the author of Théâtralités contemporaines (2011) and the co-editor of Intermedial Performance and Politics in the Public Sphere (2018).
คาทยา อาร์ฟารา สำเร็จการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาโททางด้านละครเวทีศึกษา ณ มหาวิทยาลัยเอเธนส์และปริญญาเอกสาขาประวัติศาสตร์ ณ มหาวิทยาลัยซอร์บอนน์ กาเธียร์ อาร์ฟารา ดำรงดำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการด้านศิลปะการเต้นและละครเวทีแห่ง Onassis Cultural Centre ณ กรุงเอเธนส์ ตั้งแต่ปี 2010 ในฐานะผู้อำนวยการเธอได้ริเริ่ม Fast Forward Festival ซึ่งให้เงินทุนสนับสนุนงานศิลปะเพื่อสังคมและสาธารณะ คาทยา อาร์ฟาราได้รับเชิญไปบรรยายในหลากหลายโอกาศทั้งในประเทศฝรั่งเศสและกรีซ งานเขียนประเภทความเรียงของเธอถือเป็นจุดตัดของหลากหลายศาสตร์ ทั้งละครเวที การเต้น และทัศนศิลป์ และได้รับการตีพิมพ์ในวารสารและหนังสือรวมเรื่องมากมาย นอกจากนั้นเธอยังเป็นผู้เขียนหนังสือ Théâtralités contemporaines (2011) และเป็นบรรณาธิการร่วมของหนังสือ Intermedial Performance and Politics in the Public Sphere (2018) อีกด้วย
