BIPAM proudly presents 2 new collaborative works based on Danny Yung (HK)'s concept of One Table Two Chairs. Meet the odd couples between the tradition and the contemporary: veteran Northern Thai traditional performing artist Champa Saenphrom (TH) X fearless contemporary dancer Vidura Amranand (TH), and prolific traditional dancer who's graced Myanmar's Got Talent stage Nyan Lin Aung (Myanmar) X artist-activist-interventionist who’s frequented the European art scene Irwan Ahmett (Indonesia)

One Table, Two Chairs (1T2C) is the most basic setting in traditional Chinese operas, which is adapted by Danny Yung since 1997 as a platform for creative dialogues and contemporary stage presentations. Sharing the same setting of one table and two chairs, artists will create 20-min works on stage by one director and two performers in each team. Danny has been very active in developing this concept further in order to explore the creative pathways for cross-cultural and artistic exchanges of the new generations.
For BIPAM 2018, 1T2C is adopted as a platform for two pairs of artists, traditional VS contemporary, to collaborate. We are thrilled to present the exciting results of these encounters as a double bill of two 20-minute performances by:
1. Champa Saenphrom (TH) X Vidura Amarand (TH)
จำปา แสนพรม เกิดที่เชียงราย มาอยู่กรุงเทพ ตั้งแต่ปี 2521 เป็นศิลปินขับซอ หรือเพลงพื้นบ้านภาคเหนือ ขับมาตั้งแต่ จบ ป.4 ที่ โรงเรียน บ้านดง หมู่ที่ 8 ตำบล แม่เย็น อำเภอ พาน จังหวัด เชียงราย
ปัจจุบัน เป็นครูใหญ่ โรงเรียนสืบสานศิลปวัฒนธรรมล้านนา วัดวชิรธรรมสาธิต
Jampa Saenprom, born in Chiang Rai, came to live in Bangkok since 1978. She has been a practitioner singer of 'Soh' (Northern Thai folk music) since her childhood years in Ban Dong School, Chiang Rai. She is currently the headmistress of the Lanna Cultural School, Wachiratham Sathit Temple.
วิทุรา อัมระนันท์ เป็นศิลปินและครูสอนการเต้นร่วมสมัย อาศัยอยู่ในกรุงเทพฯ เคยมีผลงานอย่างยาวนานมากับกลุ่มบีฟลอร์ และเคยร่วมงานกับผู้กำกับ ธนพล วิรุฬหกุล มาตั้งแต่ปี 2553 ผลงานการกำกับล่าสุดคือ "One Night Stand" และ "The Floating Project"
ด้านการศึกษาจบการเต้นมาจาก Sarah Lawrence School ในนครนิวยอร์ค สหรัฐฯ
และในปี 2554 ได้รางวัลทุนการศึกษา danceWEB จากงาน Vienna's International Dance Festival ส่วนปีนี้ วิทุราได้เข้าร่วมโครงการ Southeast Asia Choreolab กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ปัจจุบันยังคงพัฒนาทักษะการใช้ร่างกายผ่านแนวคิด trance, visualization and awareness
Vidura Amranand is a contemporary dance artist and teacher based in Bangkok, Thailand. She has performed extensively with B-floor Theatre and has worked with director Thanapol Virulhakul since 2010.
Her most recent directorial works are One Night Stand and The Floating Project.
Vidura studied dance at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, USA and was a recipient of the danceWEB scholarship award at Vienna's International Dance Festival in 2011.
In 2018, Vidura participated in the Southeast Asia Choreolab in Kuala Lumpur.
She continues to develop her movement practice in trance, visualization, and awareness.
2. Nyan Lin Aung (Myanmar) X Irwan Ahmett (Indonesia)
Nyan Lin Aung, professional Myanmar traditional dance and marionette artist, received B.A (Dramatic Arts) Hons. from the Department of Dramatic Arts, National University of Arts and Culture (Yangon), after which he worked as a part time instructor at the Dramatic Arts Department for a year. Upon the invitation of Ban Somdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, he performed and demonstrated traditional Myanmar Dance between Thailand and Myanmar for the Cultural Exchange program in 2012. He was selected for Artist Delegation from Ministry of Culture in International Ramayana Festival 2013 in Indonesia. He was invited by the Myanmar Embassies in South Africa and Malaysia to present his dance and puppet performances in 2016.
In 2011, he won the Myanmar Traditional Competition of Dance and Marionette. In 2016, he received an invitation from the President of Thailand Music Educators Association (TMEA) to demonstrate as a Myanmar Dance Teacher Instructor for the 4th ASEAN Music and Dance Forum, and from the President of Nakkhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University to demonstrate as a Myanmar Dance Teacher Instructor for the 3rd International Music and Performing Arts workshop.
Irwan Ahmett is an artist who positions his existence in the complexity of humanity issues through spatiality of histories and permanent impact of colonialism, and reflects those in the global geopolitical context. The ephemeralization tendency in his works has been the catalyst in responding fundamental questions about the maze of his nation’s history which is claimed unilaterally by a dogmatic power of hegemony. Though art practice contains the ‘polite subversive’ sentiment, Irwan often presents tense yet surprise experience of events without having the pressure to materialize the art. When it’s assured that art is a matter of sensibility, he explores, imagines and applies it to re-questioning the conception of art in the gesture of disobedience towards propaganda, ideology, power and tendency claiming the status quo in a society.
