About the speaker


Nikorn Saetang

is the Director of 8X8 Theatre Group, one of the core members of Bangkok Theatre Network and previously the Artistic Director of the Bangkok Theatre Festival. From 1999 to 2000 he studied at the international school of Theatre Jacques Lecoq.


Nikorn is a pioneer of independent theatre in Thailand who start running a theatre space in a townhouse. 8X8 Corner is a 30-40 seat theatre and was the inspiration for several theatre friends to start their own spaces.


He was awarded a fellowship grant to work in Japan for 3 months in 2000, and in 2007 he wrote and directed a play about Yasukuni and worked with Japanese actors in Thailand. In 2013 he received a grant from the Asian Cultural Council to take a 6-month residence in New York. In 2010 his achievements were recognised by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture in Thailand when he received the Silpathorn Award for Performing Arts.
