Rooting the Traditional Performing Arts in Contemporary Culture: Creating Collaborative Spaces for Artists and Researchers

This presentation reflects on some ways that traditional performing artists and their arts can become a fuller and more sustainable part of contemporary culture. The reflections arise from an umbrella 3-year research project funded by Thailand Research Fund, named “ Performance Research: Creating Research in the Thai Contemporary Performing Arts .” which started in August 2016.
การนำเสนองานครั้งนี้มุ่งสะท้อนว่าศิลปินในสาขาศิลปะการแสดงแบบขนบและผลงานของศิลปินเหล่านี้ สามารถเป็นส่วนประกอบที่ทำหน้าที่เติมเติมวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัยให้มีความยั่งยืนมากขึ้นได้อย่างไร โดยเนื้อหาการบรรยายดังกล่าวมาจากโครงการ “วิจัยการแสดง: สร้างสรรค์งานวิจัยในสาขาศิลปะการแสดงไทยร่วมสมัย” โดยการสนับสนุนของสำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุนการวิจัย (สกว.) ซึ่งเป็นโครงการวิจัยระยะเวลา 3 ปี โดยเริ่มดำเนินการตั้งแต่ เดือนสิงหาคม พ.ศ.2559
This research project has coordinated 8 performing arts projects around Thailand, each of which has created new spaces where traditional artists and contemporary practitioners research, produce, and stage collaborative work in the performing arts for today's audiences. At the heart of each project is an interactive encounter between one or more arts and artists with strong traditional training and artists who have a more contemporary focus. Each participating artist researches an aspect of their art as it becomes something new, tracks the process of artistic collaboration and creativity used in creating the new performance, and examines the impact that their work has had in culture and on their own artistic practice.
โครงการวิจัยนี้เป็นการทำงานร่วมกันของโครงการศิลปะการแสดง 8 โครงการทั่วประเทศ เป็นการสร้างพื้นที่ใหม่ให้กับศิลปินขนบและผู้ทำงานด้านการแสดงร่วมสมัยได้มาศึกษา สร้างสรรค์ และจัดการแสดงร่วมกัน หัวใจสำคัญของแต่ละโครงการคือเพื่อเป็นเครื่องมือในการเชื่อมศิลปินและงานศิลปะของความเแบบขนบและร่วมสมัยเข้าด้วยกัน ศิลปินในโครงการวิจัยนี้ต่างมีแนวคิดที่จะให้งานศิลปะเป็นสิ่งใหม่ เป็นแนวทางการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานร่วมกันให้เกิดการศิลปะการแสดงแบบใหม่ รวมไปถึงเพื่อดูว่างานศิลปะที่เกิดขึ้นนั้นส่งผลอย่างไรต่อวัฒนธรรมและเพื่อเป็นการเรียนรู้การทำงานศิลปะของตัวศิลปินเองด้วย
The main results are threefold: new hybrid performances for new audiences, new experimental interdisciplinary working processes for future development, and new research essays and reports on performance research that allow for a better dialogue between artists and academics. These three types of results seek to root traditional performing arts in contemporary culture of performance, artistic practice, and research. By allowing artists, audiences, and academics to interact in new ways, they can produce interdisciplinary and hybrid patterns of collaboration that provides a sustainable foundation in artistic, social and academic terms. Providing a space and opportunity for collaborative and creative research to traditional and contemporary artists seeks two larger goals. One is to ensure that the value, the spirit and the power of traditional will remain a vital and durable part of our contemporary cultural landscape, and a second is to provide contemporary artists and audiences with access to the resilience and power of traditional performing arts in our world.
ผลการวิจัยแบ่งเป็น 3 ส่วนคือ เกิดผลงานการแสดงแบบผสมผสานแบบใหม่ที่ผู้ชมกลุ่มใหม่ๆเข้าถึงได้, เกิดการทดลองขั้นตอนการทำงานแบบสหวิทยาการแบบใหม่เพื่อการพัฒนาต่อยอดไปในอนาคต และเป็นการผลิตบทความการวิจัยด้านวิจัยการแสดงเพื่อให้ศิลปินและนักวิชาการได้อภิปรายร่วมกัน จากผลการวิจัยนี้คาดว่าจะก่อให้เกิดศิลปะการแสดงแบบขนบในวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัยทั้งในด้านผลงานการแสดง การสร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะ และการวิจัย โดยสร้างความเชื่อมโยงให้ทั้งศิลปิน ผู้ชม และนักวิชาการได้ผลิตผลงานแบบผสมผสานร่วมกัน ก่อให้เกิดความยั่งยืนทั้งด้านศิลปะ สังคม และวิชาการ การให้พื้นที่และโอกาสการสร้างสรรค์และทำงานร่วมกันระหว่างศิลปินขนบและศิลปินร่วมสมัยนั้นมีจุดประสงค์ใหญ่ๆ 2 ประการคือ ประการแรก เพื่อยืนยันว่าคุณค่า จิตวิญญาณ และพลังของศิลปะขนบจะยังคงอยู่และมีความสำคัญต่อวัฒนธรรมร่วสมัย ประการที่สอง เพื่อให้ศิลปินและผู้ชมยุคปัจจุบันเข้าถึงพลังในการสร้างสรรค์ศิลปะการแสดงแบบขนบในโลกของเรา
