About the Panelists
Nikorn Saetang
is the Director of 8X8 Theatre Group, one of the core members of Bangkok Theatre Network and previously the Artistic Director of the Bangkok Theatre Festival. From 1999 to 2000 he studied at the international school of Theatre Jacques Lecoq.
Nikorn is a pioneer of independent theatre in Thailand who start running a theatre space in a townhouse. 8X8 Corner is a 30-40 seat theatre and was the inspiration for several theatre friends to start their own spaces.
He was awarded a fellowship grant to work in Japan for 3 months in 2000, and in 2007 he wrote and directed a play about Yasukuni and worked with Japanese actors in Thailand. In 2013 he received a grant from the Asian Cultural Council to take a 6-month residence in New York. In 2010 his achievements were recognised by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture in Thailand when he received the Silpathorn Award for Performing Arts.
Wayla Amatathammachad
In 2010 decided to leave his full-time career in marketing and advertising and began his new career path in art & cultural management. He started to work as a print coordinator and projectionist of the World Film Festival of Bangkok, and in 2012 as the assistant manager of Pichet Klunchun Dance Company (2012-2016). Wayla expanded his work position to be the head of cultural management and business development at Thong Lor Art Space (2016-2019). And now he is Director of The International Low Fat Art Fes Vol. 3, together with being an independent contemporary performing art management researcher. He is developing his own art network project called ‘Prayoon for Art’ that focusing on creating alliance network to promote and support contemporary art, connecting Thai contemporary art scene to international, and supplying the idea of contemporary art appreciation to Thai society.

ในปี พ.ศ. 2553 เวลา อมตธรรมชาติ ก้าวออกจากเส้นทางสายอาชีพทางด้านการตลาดและโฆษณา และก้าวเข้าสู่สายอาชีพทางด้านการบริหารจัดการศิลปวัฒนธรรม โดยเริ่มจากการเป็นเจ้าหน้าประสานงานวัสดุภาพยนตร์และเจ้าหน้าที่ควบคุมระบบฉายในเทศกาล World Film Festival of Bangkok ตั้งแต่ครั้งที่ 7 เป็นต้นมา และในปี พ.ศ. 2555 ได้ก้าวเข้าทำงานในแวดวงศิลปะการแสดงร่วมสมัยในตำแหน่งผู้ช่วยผู้จัดการของคณะ พิเชษฐ กลั่นชื่น แดนซ์ คอมพานี (พ.ศ. 2555 - 2559) และย้ายมาทำงานด้านการบริหารจัดการศิลปวัฒนธรรมและพัฒนาธุรกิจให้กับโรงมหรสพทองหล่อในเวลาต่อมา (พ.ศ. 2559 - 2562) ปัจจุบันเวลาดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นผู้อำนวยการเทศกาลศิลปะ Low Fat Art Fes ตั้งแต่ครั้งที่ 3 เป็นต้นมา และได้ก่อตั้งเครือข่ายประยูรเพื่อศิลปะขึ้นเพื่อสร้างพันธมิตรในการเผยแพร่และสนับสนุนศิลปะร่วมสมัย เชื่อมต่อวงการศิลปะร่วมสมัยไทยสู่สากล และส่งเสริมให้เกิดแนวคิดในการนำศิลปะร่วมสมัยไปปรับใช้กับวงการต่างๆ ในสังคมไทย
ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับ Low Fat Art Festival
Low Fat Art Festival first launched in 2015 by Leon, Wasurat Unaprom, with the determination and will to create a new platform for international and interdisciplinary art collaboration in Thailand. To overcome the resourcing constraints, the festival was set up by the strategy as its name 'Low Fat' - All the extra 'fat' and 'fuss' have been removed. So the platform is left only with artists and their creativity with the practical setup which to tease the audience’s artistic experience.
The Low Fat Art Festival Vol.1 - Vol.2 (In 2015 and 2017) have gotten the chance to collaborate with a successful amount of local and international artists from The Philippines, Myanmar, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Belgium. The festivals brought a wider range of art to the local audience such as live performance, contemporary dance, exhibition, film, and photography. All which are supported by Creative Industries, Thonglor Art Space, Pridi Banomyong Institute, Korean cultural center, Japan Foundation Bangkok, and Asia Center.
For 2019, Low Fat Art Fes Vol.3 returned with a new challenge by bringing all arts out of confine space and galleries and connected them all into the hidden spaces of 3 small communities of Thonburi, a province almost disconnected to contemporary art vibes to bridging the gap between the audience and artists and also local communities as well.
เทศกาลศิลปะ Low Fat Art Festival เกิดขึ้นครั้งแรกในปี พ.ศ. 2558 โดยคุณ วสุรัชต อุณาพรหม ด้วยความตั้งใจที่จะสร้างแพลตฟอร์มทางศิลปะเพื่อให้เกิดความร่วมมือทางการสร้างสรรค์ระหว่างศิลปะหลากหลายสาขาและเชื่อมโยงศิลปินไทยและต่างประเทศเข้าด้วยกัน ภายใต้ข้อจำกัดด้านทรัพยากร Low Fat ใช้กลยุทธ์ที่เปรียบเสมือนนมพร่องมันเนย คือตัดความหรูหรา ฟุ่มเฟือย และลดทอนสิ่งที่ไม่จำเป็นในการสร้างสรรค์และสื่อสารในเชิงสุนทรียะออก คงเหลือไว้เพียงงานศิลปะและคุณค่าของตัวชิ้นงานที่จะเปิดประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆ ให้ผู้ชม
เทศกาลศิลปะ Low Fat Art Festival Vol.1 - Vol.2 (พ.ศ. 2558 และ 2560) ได้มีโอกาสนำเสนอผลงานที่สร้างสรรค์จากความร่วมมือของศิลปินไทย กับศิลปินจากฟิลิปปินส์ พม่า ญี่ปุ่น เกาหลี สิงค์โปร์ ฮ่องกง และเบลเยี่ยม โดยมีงานศิลปะจัดแสดงตั้งแต่การแสดง ศิลปะการเต้นร่วมสมัย การฉายภาพยนตร์ นิทรรศการศิลปะและภาพถ่าย โดยกิจกรรมทั้งหมดได้รับความร่วมมือและการสนับสนุนจาก Creative Industries, ทองหล่อ อาร์ต สเปซ, สถาบันปรีดี พนมยงค์ , Korean cultural center, เจแปนฟาวน์เดชั่น กรุงเทพฯ , และ Asia Center
ในปี พ.ศ. 2562 Low Fat Art Fes Vol.3 ได้กลับมาอีกครั้งด้วยความท้าทายบทใหม่ เทศกาลในครั้งนี้ได้นำงานศิลปะทั้งหมดของเทศกาลเข้าไปจัดแสดงในพื้นที่ชุมชน 3 แห่งในฝั่งธนบุรี ที่ชาวชุมชนไม่คุ้นเคยกับงานศิลปะร่วมสมัยนัก โดยวัตถุประสงค์ในการจัดครั้งนี้เพื่อเป็นการเชื่อมโลกของศิลปะร่วมสมัยและสังคมไทยเข้าด้วยกัน
Thanupon Yindee
ธนุพล เริ่มทำละครอย่างจริงจังตั้งแต่ปี 2012 มีความเชี่ยวชาญในหลายรูปแบบการแสดง ทั้งละครพูด ละครถกแถลง ละครการเคลื่อนไหวและการเต้น ละครเด็กและเยาวชน ละครกายกรรมร่วมสมัย เขามุ่งมั่นในการหาจุดเชื่อมของการใช้ศิลปะการแสดงละครและการเคลื่อนไหวทางสังคม (Social Movements) เพื่อเป็นการขยายขอบเขตของการสร้างแรงกระทบทางบวกต่อสังคมผ่านการสื่อสารการแสดงละคร ทั้งยังเสริมอำนาจภายในให้กับกลุ่มคนหลายๆกลุ่มทั้งกลุ่มศิลปิน นักกิจกรรม นักพัฒนาสังคม ครู/อาจารย์นักศึกษา และกลุ่มคนชายขอบต่างๆ ผ่านกระบวนการละครเพื่อสามารถสร้างพื้นที่อำนาจร่วมและมีส่วนร่วมในกระบวนคิด ออกแบบสังคมที่ดีขึ้น ศาสตร์ที่ใช้เพื่อเป็นแนวทางการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานละครคือ ละครเพื่อผู้ถูกกดขี่ ละครเพื่อการเปลี่ยนแปลง ศิลปะสื่อสันติวิธี การจัดการความขัดแย้ง และ การออกแบบเชิงกลยุทธ์ ทั้งนี้ธนุพลยังให้ความสำคัญกับสุนทรียภาพทางศิลปะการแสดงละคร เท่ากับเนื้อหาประเด็นสังคมและขบวนการเคลื่อนไหว เพื่อเป็นการยกระดับคุณภาพการสื่อสารสังคมผ่านศิลปะการแสดงละคร อีกทั้งเขายังเป็น Artistic Director ของเทศกาลละครเพื่อการเปลี่ยนแปลง Act up Chiangmai transformative theatre festival ซึ่งเป็นเทศกาลละครที่สร้างพื้นที่ศิลปะการแสดงและการเคลื่อนไหวประเด็นทางสังคม Act up เป็นเทศกาลแรกที่จัดโดยกลุ่มคนรุ่นใหม่ในเมืองเชียงใหม่
Pavinee Samakkabutr
is a performer, lighting designer and producer who has been working continuously in theatre and performing art field with many theatre troupes in Thailand and internationally for more than 15 years. She has pursued her passion and developed her skills for the art profession since Thammasat University. She is one of founder of Democrazy Theatre Studio, Bangkok, Thailand, the independent studio founded in 2008, that has produced a wide range of theatre works, events, and including international working platform.
In collaboration with Arts on Location and Democrazy Theatre Studio, she was responsible as a producer in the first and second edition of the festival organising the Bangkok International Children’s Theatre Festival (BICT Fest), the first international theatre festival for young audiences in Thailand.
BICT Fest (Bangkok International Children’s Theatre Festival)
Bangkok International Children’s Theatre Festival or BICT Fest is Thailand’s first international performing arts festival for young people founded from 2016. The goal of the festival is to cultivate creativity, connect cultures and inspire children through professional theatre works and fun creative activities for all in the family from different countries and cultures. It is also a vibrant meeting place that inspires the exchange of ideas and creative dialogue between audiences, artists, and professionals. These meetings encourage interest in the subject of creativity for young people, and collaborations between international artists and professionals leading to the creation of more art for young people and families.
After careful consideration, and after 2 successful editions of BICT Fest in 2016 and 2018 as a biannual festival with additional activities during gap years, BICT Fest is taking a break from organising a full-scale festival to take time to develop the team. However, BICT Fest will continue to connect with TYA networks and activities especially in the form of ongoing research into TYA in Thailand and Asia.
Jitti Chompee
Born in 1974 in Bangkok, Thailand, Jitti Chompee graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University. He was trained in classical ballet by David Shields and William Morgan at Varaporn-Kanchana Ballet School. He was awarded a scholarship from the Jean M. Wong School of Ballet in Hong Kong, and later a full-time scholarship at the Ailey School in New York, USA. As a professional dancer, he worked for Ismael Ivo, Rafiga Akhundova, William Morgan, and Luca Bruni.
Jitti came back to Thailand and founded 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre in 2010, where he works as director and house choreographer. In 2011, he earned the prestigious award as the Outstanding Young Choreographer from the Goethe Institut Thailand, which invited him to produce a dance in collaboration with Total Brutal Company for show in Bangkok and Berlin and invited to participate the Tanz Platform 2012 and 2014 in Germany. With the continued support from the Goethe Institut Thailand, Jitti directed and choreographed another contemporary dance, entitled “Lieber Adzio”, which was created in collaboration with German composer Dirk P. Haubrich and visual artist Yoko Seyama.
Jitti also brought his productions to participate in many international dance festivals; among which were the George Town Festival 2011 in Malaysia, Festival Tanztendenzen 2014 in Greifswald Germany, guest choreographer for the Nederlandse Reisopera (Les pêcheurs de perles) 2015 in the Netherlands and the Japan Foundation invited him to Yokohama Performing Arts Meeting 2012 in Japan. He was invited by the Institut Français de Fès, in 2013 in Morocco for residency artist program, where he premiered his latest work “Tightrope Walker” and again at Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris 2014 supported by The French Embassy Thailand and Institut Français to create a new creation for La fete 2015.
Unfolding Kafka Festival
has served as a platform for a worldwide appeal in outstanding contemporary art since 2015. Our 3rd edition digs into the wild side of Kafka's animal and crossbreed characters to release them from the ordered world. The grotesque universe of Kafka blurs the line between human and non-human by allowing us to reflect on the otherness through humanized creatures. Similarly, artists have been inspired by the animal aesthetic and movements to mirror our own existential dilemmas. Furthermore, since the environment affects our perception, the festival encourages you to appreciate various intensive, moving and learning art experiences in encounter with unusual atmosphere, through unexpected tangible or conceptual layers to question the relationship between the subject’s gaze and the object in the same way humans look at animals in a zoo differs from observing them in the wild. Thus, Jitti’s latest project "KAFKA ZOO" proposes you a unique landscape of conceptual works with a strong visual and an untamed wilderness to create a dialogue about societal issues like identity and gender through animalism and daring points of view.
Why the name “Unfolding Kafka”?
Everything started when Jitti Chompee, founder and director of the festival, saw “Der Bau” by Isabelle Schad and Laurent Goldring at Tanzplattform 2014 in Hamburg, Germany. The performance, inspired by Franz Kafka’s novel, made Jitti realize that the piece, conceived as a dance work, could easily be considered as visual art. He said: “I think this is a new perspective that should be introduced to art students and creators here”. Hence, he decided to propose to the Goethe Institute Thailand to invite both artists to come present their work in Bangkok. Since Kafka, a German author, inspires the piece, the Goethe-Institute Thailand was very enthusiastic to proudly support the project. Meanwhile, Jitti kept exploring Kafka’s work, “A Letter to His Father”, which made him think about origami and Yoko Seyama, a visual artist and scenographer. The artistic collaboration between Yoko and Jitti gave birth to a piece called “The Silence of Insects”, which has been supported by the Japan Foundation, another essential cooperation that allowed the festival to take form. Later on, after the festival’s first edition, Kylian Foundation invited Jitti in 2016 for an artistic residency at Korzo Theatre in Den Haag, Netherlands. Still inspired by Kafka’s work, Jitti created a new piece, Red Peter, which, since then, has been travelling around the world to diverse dance festivals. Never, would he have thought that so many projects and ideas could come from one special encounter…
Kumiko Takano
Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1975. Graduated from Tokyo University of Science. I am interested in "the issue of whereabouts and loneliness" based on my childhood transfer and bullying experience and work experience at a Japanese financial company. After that, married with PaitoonLaisakul in 2012 . International coordinator of KONRAK MIME festival for 2016 and 2017. 2018 Mime Family, producer of the 3rd Conrac Mime Festival, CEO of Konakha Mime Academy.
Pawit Mahasarinand (Moderator)
Director of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), the hub of Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB), Bangkok Theatre Festival (BTF) and Bangkok International Children Theatre Festival (BICTfest) in addition to more than 400 cultural events attended by more than 1.7 million audiences annually.
Previously at the Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts, he worked with foreign embassies and cultural institutions in presenting contemporary dance and theatre performances, workshops and lectures by artists from several countries and disciplines, including Pichet Klunchun and Myself, Democrazy Theatre Studio’s Happy Hunting Ground, Hamlet by Shakespeare’s Globe, Compagnie Non Nova’s P.P.P., Pascal Rambert’s Love’s End and A (Micro) History of World Economics (danced) and Oriza Hirata’s Sayonara, Metamorphosis (Android Version) and Bangkok Notes.
The first president of the International Association of Theatre Critics’ (IATC) Thailand centre, Pawit was critic-in-residence at the Festival/Tokyo 2011, Asia Pacific Dance Festival 2015 and City Contemporary Dance Festival 2017. Awarded “chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres” by France’s Ministry of Culture and Communication, he was also a member of the Southeast Asia Advisory Committee (SEAAC) for Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture.
