Panel 2. The Director and Producer Relationship – How Does it Work?
In Southeast Asia, there is a growing recognition on the role of a producer in contemporary performing arts. This recognition is part driven by producers themselves as they begin to claim, and define the space they occupy in art making. At the same time, companies, institutions and other practitioners are also making space for this role, in tandem with the overall growth of the idea of art management in this region.

This panel will examine in a conversation, the working model between a theatre director and producer. While working together to execute a creative vision, how do directors and producers relate to each other as colleagues? What critical elements are required in this relationship for work? The panel also intends to open up the discussion to the Thai independent film industry, where we will hear from a film producer, on the model of director-producer relationship. Perhaps we can draw parallels, and expand our ideas of this relationship in the making of contemporary performance.

Mark Teh is a researcher and performance maker based in Kuala Lumpur. His diverse, collaborative projects are particularly engaged with the issues of history, memory and the urban context, often taking on documentary and speculative forms. His practice is situated primarily in performance, but also operates via exhibitions, interventions, writing, curating, and education. Cattleya Paosrijaroen graduated from Srinakharinwirot University's Faculty of Fine Arts and joined AYU (As Yet Unnamed), an artist collective initiated since 1999. Cattleya has over 15 years experience in the Thai film industry – from costume designer in independent films such as Concrete Clouds, HI-So, P-047 to being the line producer of the award-winning documentary By the River (directed by Nontawat Numbenchapol) and So Be It (directed by from Kongdej Jaturanrasme). Cattleya is also the producer of The Master by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, Motel Mist by Prabda Yoon (world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam), Someone From Nowhere, also by Prabda and Ten Years Thailand a Hong Kong and Japan co-production which world premiered at Festival de Cannes in 2018.
คัทลียา เผ่าศรีเจริญ จบการศึกษาจากคณะศิลปกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาศรีนครินทรวิโรฒและยังเป็นสมาชิกของกลุ่ม AYU (As Yet Unnamed) ซึ่งก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 1999 คัทรียาคร่ำหวอดในวงการภาพยนตร์ไทยมามากกว่า 15 ปี ทำมาแล้วหลายบทบาทหน้าที่ตั้งแต่ผู้ออกแบเครื่องแต่งกายในภาพยนตร์อิสระอย่างภวังรัก ไฮโซ และแต่เพียงผู้เดียว ไปจนถึงการเป็นผู้จัดการกองถ่ายของสารคดีรางวัลเรื่อง สายน้ำติดเชื่อ กำกับโดยนนทวัฒน์ นำเบญจพล และ เอวัง กำกับโดยคงเดช จาตุรันต์รัศมี นอกจากนั้น คัทรียายังได้รับบทบาทเป็นโปรดิวเซอร์ให้กับภาพยนตร์เรื่องเดอะมาสเตอร์ กำกับโดยนวพล ธำรงรัตนฤทธิ์ โรงแรมต่างดาว โดยปราบดา หยุ่น (ซึ่งได้รับการคัดเลือกให้ฉายในเทศการภาพยนตร์นานาชาติร็อตเตอร์ดาม) มา ณ ที่นี้ กำกับโดบปราบดา หยุ่น และล่าสุด ภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Ten Years Thailand ซึ่งเป็นความร่วมมือกันระหว่างฮ่องกงและญี่ปุ่น และได้รับคัดเลือกให้ฉายในเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติเมืองคานส์ในปี 2018
