Unfolding Kafka Festival has served as a platform for a worldwide appeal in outstanding contemporary art since 2015. Our 3rd edition digs into the wild side of Kafka's animal and crossbreed characters to release them from the ordered world.
The grotesque universe of Kafka blurs the line between human and non-human by allowing us to reflect on the otherness through humanized creatures. Similarly, artists have been inspired by the animal aesthetic and movements to mirror our own existential dilemmas. Furthermore, since the environment affects our perception, the festival encourages you to appreciate various intensive, moving and learning art experiences in encounter with unusual atmosphere, through unexpected tangible or conceptual layers to question the relationship between the subject’s gaze and the object in the same way humans look at animals in a zoo differs from observing them in the wild. Thus, Jitti’s latest project "KAFKA ZOO" proposes you a unique landscape of conceptual works with a strong visual and an untamed wilderness to create a dialogue about societal issues like identity and gender through animalism and daring points of view.
Unfolding Kafka Festival is a contemporary art festival inspired by the lifetime works of Franz Kafka, the iconic Czech writer. Unfolding Kafka offers the audience a chance to make their own interpretations of Kafka’s works through crossovers of different art forms, providing fresh insights to his classic ouvre.
Unfolding Kafka takes place right after BIPAM 2019. As a special privilege, holders of a BIPAM Pass are invited to an exclusive guided tour of the festival’s installation-in-progress by Atsuko Nakamura before the official opening.

Unfolding Kafka Festival เป็นพื้นที่เปิดสำหรับงานศิลปะร่วมสมัยมาตั้งแต่ปี 2015 ในเทศกาลครั้งที่ 3 นี้ เราจะได้มาขุดคุ้ยด้านดิบของตัวละครสัตว์หลากหลายประเภท เพื่อปลดปล่อยพันธนาการที่ผูกมัดตัวละครเหล่านั้นให้อยู่ในโลกที่มีระเบียบแบบแผน
เราเป็นมนุษย์หรือสัตว์? เส้นแบ่งอยู่ตรงไหน? คำถามเรื่องความเป็นอื่นของสัตว์ (แต่มีความคิดเสมือนคน) ในจักรวาลอันบิดเบี้ยวของคาฟกา น่าจะเหมือนกับศิลปินหลายคนที่ได้แรงบันดาลใจจากสัตว์ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นรูปร่างหรือการเคลื่อนไหว และนำมาสร้างงานที่สะท้อนชีวิตมนุษย์เอง และจากแนวคิดที่ว่าสภาพแวดล้อมมีผลต่อการรับรู้ จึงเป็นที่มาของงาน “KAFKA ZOO” โดยโอ๋ - จิตติ ชมพี ที่จะจำลองบรรยากาศที่แปลกไป เพื่อกระตุ้นให้เราตั้งคำถามถึงการ “ชม” ศิลปะ ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่แตกต่างกัน เช่นการมองดูสัตว์ในสวนสัตว์ย่อมแตกต่างกับการดูสัตว์ตามธรรมชาติ พร้อมกับชวนพูดคุยในประเด็นสังคมเช่นอัตลักษณ์และเพศวิถี
อาจเรียกได้ว่า Unfolding Kafka Festival คือเทศกาลศิลปะร่วมสมัยจากแรงบันดาลใจจากผลงานของ Franz Kafka นักเขียนชื่อดังชาวเช็ก Unfolding Kafka เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้เข้าชม ‘ตีความ’ งานของ Kafka ผ่านวิชวลอาร์ตและคอนเซ็ปต์อาร์ต ที่เกิดจากการสร้างงานข้ามศาสตร์ เช่น จากวรรณกรรมสู่วิชวลอาร์ต จากวิชวลอาร์ตสู่การ choreograph Unfolding Kafka เผยอีกด้านของงานที่ Kafka สร้างขึ้น สู่การตีความแบบใหม่ ในศาสตร์ที่แตกต่างกัน
เทศกาลจะจัดขึ้นหลัง BIPAM 2019 สำหรับผู้ที่ถือบัตร BIPAM PASS ร่วมรับโอกาสสุดพิเศษ เข้าร่วมชมกระบวนการติดตั้งผลงาน (installation-in-progress) โดย Atsuko Nakamura ก่อนเทศกาลจะเปิดตัวอย่างเป็นทางการ โดยมีไกด์จาก Unfolding Kafka เป็นผู้นำทัวร์
