For a long time the Philippines was under the rule of the notorious dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. Nowadays, citizens still face the problems of poverty and a drug-war. Due to the free spirit the people have held onto, however, Filipino artists continue to raise their voices through the arts. Performing Arts in the country is diverse and vibrant with a unique taste. As with other countries in the region, the art scene often depends on the vision of the leaders, and this can be the cause of enduring problems.
This Saturday, in the BIPAM Webinar Series, we’ll hear from 3 artists from the Philippines who employ their skills in different ways to achieve their purpose.
